Scott Roley #2

Yeah, I was drawing in church again. I wasn't bored, I just get fascinated with Scott Roley's face and the bulletin had a nice big blank space this week. I love the punctuation of his white goatee ( I exaggerated it quite a bit). He reminds me of Dr. Francis Schaeffer (theologian and founder of L'Abri). And I'm sure my memory of Dr. Shaeffer has affected this caricature.
I didn't have my brush pen on me, so I used a super fine point felt pen that was running out of ink. I prefer the brush pen, but I also like the ability to add some tone with the fine point.
Maybe one Sunday, I'll take my Windsor-Newton travel watercolor set and add a splash of color.
I will definitely have to sit in the back row that week.

Church Sketch

This is quick doodle I did of our pastor, Scott Roley. I used a brush pen on the church bulletin. I was sitting near the back (as usual) so my eye for detail was somewhat hampered.
Pastor Roley is the co-author of the book "God's Neighborhood". It's an autobiography, but centered on his efforts toward racial reconciliation. Scott didn't stop at working in rescue missions and visiting poor neighborhoods at Christmas & Thanksgiving. No, he moved his family into one a disadvantaged neighborhood here in Williamson County. It's a brave thing to give up many standard "comforts" to live those whom you would call brother.
